Los Angeles will be the cultural capital of the millenium. This statement was recently made by LAs vice-president of cultural tourism who then went on to state that there are more majour musseums per head of population in LA than in other US city (300 to be precise), not to mention more artists, writers, film-maker, actors, dancers and musicians than in any other city in the history of civilisation. The Grand Canyon - Arizona, USA

One of Earth’s few landforms visible from space, the Grand Canyon of the Colorado River slices through 277 miles of Northwestern Arizona. The Grand Canyon is considered one of the natural wonders of the world largely because of its natural features.

There are approximately 1,737 known species of vascular plants, 167 species of fungi, 64 species of moss and 195 species of lichen found in Grand Canyon National Park. Of the the 34 mammal species found along the Colorado River corridor, 15 are rodents and eight are bats.

Grand Canyon National Park is one of the worlds premier natural attractions, attracting about five million visitors per year.

The Forbidden City - located in the middle of Beijing, China

The Forbidden City is located in the middle of Beijing, China and is named like this because it was off-limits to commoners for 500 years, was the imperial court for twenty-four emperors from the early days of the Ming dynasty in the 15th century until the fall of the Qing dynasty in 1911.

The Forbidden City is the world’s largest surviving palace complex and covers 72 ha. It is a rectangle 961 metres (3,150 ft) from north to south and 753 metres (2,470 ft) from east to west. It consists of 980 surviving buildings with 8,707 bays of rooms.

The Masai Mara - Kenyan Savanna

With an area of 1510 km the Masai Mara is not the largest game park in Kenya, but it is probably the most famous. Every year when the rainy season id over in May, hundreds of thousands of animals mass together, exploring greener vegetation and vital sustenance from the Serengeti in Tanzania north to the wide-open grasslands of Kenya’s Masai Mara, where they arrive in July and August.

The Masai Mara has a widespread reputation for its lions. The population of black rhinoceros is severely vulnerable, with a population of only 37 recorded in 2000. Hippopotami are living in large groups in the Masai Mara and Talek Rivers. Cheetah are also to be found, although their numbers are also threatened, chiefly due to tourist disruption of their day-time hunting. (more…)

As with all other national museums and art galleries in Britain, the Museum charges no admission fee, although charges are levied for some temporary special exhibitions.
